Mad River Fiber Arts & Mill is a full service fiber processing mini mill. Our brand new equipment is manufactured by Belfast Mini Mills, in Prince Edward Island, Canada. We can handle your raw fiber from washing through yarn and every step in between. We process all wool types, fine wools such as Merino, Cormo and Rambouillet to courser wools such as Icelandic Lopi, alpaca, llama, mohair and angora bunny. Sorry, we do not process pet hair.
At Mad River Fiber Arts & Mill we are passionate about the fiber arts. Our goal is build awareness and community around the fiber arts. We will do this by providing production capacity for small farms and producers who raise fiber animals. Our Belfast Mini Mill equipment is state of the art and can produce in addition to yarn a wide range of products from roving to rug yarn to felt.
Just like the Farm to Table movement has taken hold across the country we would like to start a Farm to Fiber movement. It is important to us to educate about where our clothes and textiles come from and to support the local economies by providing our customers with high quality products from their own fiber, which they can sell in their shops or at fairs.
We offer a wide range of fiber workshops and events and are always happy to schedule private or semi-private lessons in spinning, felting or weaving (rigid heddle or floor loom). We carry spinning and weaving equipment from Schacht Spindle Company and Ashford. Our retail shop is stocked with lots of colorful yarn and fibers. Our yarn is processed in our mill using 100% Vermont wool, hand dyed in house. There are fibers and yarns of all types; wool, alpaca, llama and mohair.
