Do you know your history?

Join the Friends of the Stowe Free Library on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 7pm in welcoming Ed McGuire, a past-president of the VT Genealogy Library & the VT French-Canadian Genealogical Society. Ed will be discussing how to get started in researching ancestors, where to look for records (both physical and digital) and how the field of genealogy has changed recently. This hour-long talk will cover where to find genealogy records, both in Vermont and in the USA/Canada. This includes the major repositories like the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Allen County Public Library, New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston and Vermont repositories, including our own Vermont Genealogy Library. The talk will also touch on the major changes to the genealogy field that have occurred in the past decade such as free online education & blogs, Facebook, software tools and DNA testing. Ed specializes in covering Irish family history and genetic genealogy including all types of DNA tests and all the major testing companies. Ed has been researching his Irish, English, German and Quebec ancestors for over 35 years and, in the process, has made almost every genealogical mistake possible. He and his wife, Sue, live in Hinesburg, Vermont.
