Norwich University Founder's Day Celebration in Norwich, VT
Norwich University will mark its 200th anniversary with a day of special events at the site of its founding in Norwich, Vt., on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Dignitaries from Norwich University as well as Dartmouth College will take part in the ceremonies under a large tent. There will be an ice cream social throughout the afternoon. Norwich’s Regimental Band, the nation’s oldest collegiate band, will perform and the Drill Team, known as the Shock Platoon will, provide a demonstration.
The Norwich Historical Society will host “Citizens & Soldiers,” an exhibit created by Norwich’s Sullivan Museum & History Center. This traveling display highlights Norwich’s dynamic role in the development of the United States, and the contributions of her alumni to the nation and the world. There will be a ceremonial wreath-laying on Norwich Founder Captain Alden Partridge’s (pictured) grave, and a walking tour of the village’s landmarks led by Professor Emeritus Gary Lord.
Detailed highlights of the day include:
• All day: “Citizens & Soldiers,” the Sullivan Museum and History Center’s traveling exhibit on display at the Norwich Historical Society
• 12-3: Ice cream social and activities under the tent on the Town Green:
o 12-12:30: Regimental Band performance on the Green
o 12:30-12:45: Norwich’s drill team, Shock Platoon, demonstration o 1:00: Program under the tent including remarks from dignitaries and Norwich’s
• 1:45: Walking tour with historian Gary Lord begins at the Norwich Congregational Church
