Shakespearean "Idol" Fundraising Dinner
Event tags: Shakespeare, Performing Arts, Theatre Performance, Fundraiser, Charity
Shakespeare on Main Street is seeking to raise $6,000 for this summer’s tour of “Othello. A fundraising dinner will be held June 28, at TED Restaurant, Manchester, VT. This benefit will be a festive celebration of theatrical and culinary skill.
First, a Shakespearean Idol-style competition between 5 contestants for a $100 prize, reciting Othello’s final soliloquy, in which he is driven by remorse to take his own life.
The dinner follows, by chef/owner Ted Brothers, who has more than 20 years’ experience as an executive chef at some of the finest resorts in the country. Ted’s menu for the evening draws on his sophisticated balance of French classic cuisine and his New World approach using lighter, healthier ingredients. Shakespeare himself would applaud the wild-caught Pacific salmon, available for only a few weeks, and paired with a fresh basil cream sauce, based on a wine and garlic reduction. The choice of chicken piccata brings the Mediterreanean to Manchester with a lightly carmelized breast of chicken complemented with a fresh, elegant lemon caper sauce. For those who prefer a vegetarian dish, there will be petite carrots and other regionally sourced vegetables with a Portobello mushroom entree, and a classic black truffle risotto. Guests will have the chance to linger over Ted’s exquisitely light tiramisu, or try the sweet tang of strawberry-rhubarb pie – to purists a dessert to be eaten now with rhubarb at its most tender in Vermont.
Tickets are $75 and must be purchased by June 24. The first 30 guests will receive a ticket to the opening night performance. Please contact Lawrence Zupan for dinner reservation at email@example.com.
All proceeds will benefit SoMS, a 501c3 charitable organization. Please contact Mary Cardel for more information to enter the “Othello” soliloquy challenge at: Thespians5@yahoo.com, or call Gary Meitrott at 802-282-2581.Visit Event Website for More Info
