MUSLIM GIRLS MAKING CHANGE

Kicking off the WORDS OUT LOUD season on September 11 at 3:00pm is the MUSLIM GIRLS MAKING CHANGE (MGMC), with Denise Casey and Rajnii Eddins Originally part of the Youth Writers Project, MGMC began as a teen slam poetry quartet from Burlington. The group was recently featured on VPR and participated in the Brave New Voices international youth poetry festival in Washington, DC, and has since grown into a quintet. They will perform their own work along with that of their coaches, poets Denise Casey and Rajnii Eddins. Muslim Girls Making Change (MGMC) was created by Hawa Adam, Kiran Waqar, Lena Ginawi, and Balkisa Abdikadir. They, and their newest member, Basmala Fadel, are dedicated to social justice through poetry.
